I got an email a couple of days ago from All Hands, the organisation I just finished volunteering with in The Philippines, saying that they’re short on cash and will have to close their 2+ year program in Haiti early if they don’t raise some funds fast. This came as a bit of a shock as All Hands have never had to terminate an international project early due to funding… they always seem to find a way to make things work, despite often being strapped for cash.
I had been meaning to set up a fundraising page for them for months but this was the kick in the pants I needed to make it happen and I’m hoping you can help. I’d like to call on my readers to make a donation to this cause. If you feel like you’ve gotten anything of value from my blog over the years, I will take all gratitude in the form of donations to this project in Haiti. It doesn’t matter how small the donation… it adds up!
I’m not going to beg or harp on about how awesome All Hands are… check out my fundraising page for a bit more info or their website to see how amazing they are. I’ve seen the work they do first-hand and can’t think of a better place for your spare change to go.
Thanks!

Hi Kirsty,
Does All Hands accept direct donations? Or is it only if you volunteer?
I saw the fundraising page but am a little confused, is it a donation to All Hands, or is it a donation to All Hands to help cover your costs as a volunteer?
Hi Pi,
All Hands accept direct donations! My fundraising page is specifically to raise money to go towards the current Haiti project but all donations are welcome and if you want to make a general donation then you can head directly to their website’s donation page: https://secure.commonground.convio.com/allhands/donate/
My fundraising page has nothing to do with me volunteering but is a donation to the project in Haiti to help it continue. Housing and feeding volunteers is a part of All Hands’ operating costs (although at the moment in Haiti the volunteer and staff base is mostly Haitians) so some of any money donated will go towards that, but that’s a part of the program and part of what’s needed to finish things up. I’m not planning on volunteering again there before the project is finished but even if I were, I cover all of my own expenses as a volunteer (getting there, spending money etc) and wouldn’t fundraise for that.
In short, any money donated through my fundraising page goes directly to All Hands and has nothing to do with me except that I’m using the page to reach out to my family, friends and contacts.
Thanks for the inquiry, hope that clarifies things!
Kirsty
Hi Kirsty,
It really helps clarify things.
Do they still need help in the Philippines?
Pi
Haiti still needs so much help! We are moving our family from Southern CA to Croix des Bouquets this summer to help rebuild an orphanage. I am trying to raise awareness of the great needs that residents of this tiny island still have: the need for clean water, for better food, for safe shelter, and for education. I am so happy to find other people doing the same.
