About

Published by Kirsty

About MeThis is my first blog but I’ve been designing websites since 2000 when I started Travoholic.com. In between some seriously long stages of neglect I worked on the site as a hobby because I love travel and, well, I guess I’m a nerd.

In 2005 Adsense came into my life and my eyes were opened to the world of earning money from the web. I now have a small collection of sites, all aimed at backpackers, and am earning a cool $1000/month (as of August 2007).

I live in London where $1000 converts to a couple quid but in December I’m packing it all in to head to Asia where $1000 buys a lot of beer. The plan is to work on my sites (and this blog) full time while kicking around Asia living the life of a slacker backpacker and getting sun burned.

All of my sites are old school with no interactivity so I thought I’d start a blog to see what all the buzz is about and start participating in the huge community of bloggers out there. Plus, because I’ve already had a wee bit of success building sites, I want to share what I know. I’m new to blogs though so hopefully other newbies can learn with me as I get things going.

Oh ya, I’m Canadian but have lived abroad since 2002 in Australia, NZ, Glasgow and London plus did a stint in Ireland in 2001. I love backpacking and living in new places and plan to move to Beijing in April 2008 to study Mandarin. Why? Well I’m going to the Olympics so might as well get an apartment and I want to learn a language that nobody would ever expect me to speak so I can spy on people on the bus. I doubt I’ll learn a thing but it’ll be funny trying.

I haven’t worked out how to add a contact form yet so just email me here with anything but spam. Spammers, are you listening? Didn’t think so.

Oh and my name’s Kirsty. That’s all. For now…

    Kirsty,

Congratulations on your web earnings and good luck with this site. You have a lovely writing style; just the right balance of friendliness and humour.

I never used to see the point of blogs until I looked at them more closely. There’s certainly lots of rubbish out there, but every now and again you come across gems like yours, Working Nomad’s and others. It’s good to see you’re beginning to reap the rewards of all those hours you must have put in during the early stages.

hey Kirsty - Congratulations! I came across your posting on working nomad, which I only recently discovered per the story about extreme telecommuting on cnnfn.com. reading both your posts and the posts on Working Nomad has really gotten me jazzed to learn about putting up my own websites. I sure have a lot of different interests so hopefully content won’t be too much of a problem. As the Ancients said, a 1000 mile journey starts with one step.

    Congrats and best of luck!

    Steve

Thanks guys! Roy I’m glad you like my writing style… I pretty much just write how I speak so I’ve never known how it comes across. Cheers for the feedback.

Steve getting the ideas is half the battle. There’s a big learning curve but the whole process is really rewarding, even before you start earning money. It’s a bit cliche, but if you do it for the love of your topics and sharing your knowledge then the money will follow as you keep learning. Keep us posted on your projects.
