I earned $1660 in May which wasn’t nearly as good as my crazy April, but considering my computer broke and I really did nothing this time, I am not going to complain. Have I mentioned how much I love passive income?
Earnings Breakdown:
- Google Adsense – $430 – Adsense started off amazingly and tailed off a bit towards the end of the month. I had my first ever $30+ day which was pretty good and I’m seeing great earnings per click for a couple of new sites… now I just need to get more traffic to them.
- Affiliate Sales – $349 - The earnings for my main (and dwindling) affiliate were matched this month by my three other affiliate networks combined. The other affiliates are creeping up in earnings which I’m happy to see. I think I can bring my main affiliate back from the brink but it’ll take a bit of work.
- Advertising – $758 - This month was all renewals and I had no surprise emails wanting to buy advertising off of me. Renewals are encouraging and I rarely see people cancel links they’ve bought unless they’re for small amounts. I’m hoping things stay that way!
- Ebook Sales – $133 – My ebook did amazingly shite this month but I’m not surprised given I did almost zero promotion. Actually, that’s not true… I did that TV interview (having trouble getting the video but I will try) on local TV that seemed to result in a couple of sales but, other than that, I’ve been quiet in this area. When my computer died it made doing this really tricky. It is interesting to see how important constant promotion is. I have lots of ideas but they will probably have to wait another month before I execute.
June will be another write off month for me. I’m meeting up with some friends and travelling around to World Cup games. I’ve met up with these two friends before during the Olympics with high hopes of sneaking away to do some work and it didn’t work then, so I’m not expecting it to work now. I think I will enjoy myself and I might even leave my computer behind in Cape Town and plan on working hard in July instead of kidding myself.
I’m pretty excited about the World Cup, seeing my friends and checking out Africa a bit. I’m going one-way with few plans so if anyone will be in the area and wants to meet up, let me know. Or if anyone has any suggestions on things to do, please get in touch!

Hey Kirsty,
I’m in Pretoria presently, then J’burg, Durban, P.E. and finally Cape Town in late June through July 27th. Love to meet up with you to chat on volunteering, soccer and the virtues of dark chocolate over milk chocolate (we can drop the soccer convo if you insist…).
If you get up to Gauteng, highly suggest a trip to Blyde River Canyon and
Kruger National. I’d opt for a rent-a-car and do it yourself over a tour, but your milage may vary.
By the way, you don’t know me. Just an off again, on again reader of all things Nerdy and Nomadic. We can change that though. Coffee’s on me if you’re inclined to meet up.
Your brother in travel,
-Chris
Good to see you staying up and and around $1500 seems like the work you did earlier in the year is starting to pay off …
I’m heading over to Asia in a few days so Africa’s out this time around, I caught tail end of show the other night mentioning how Brazil has the world cup in 2014 then the Olympics in 2016 kinda had me thinking where i should go for a couple of years…
That’s still decent monthly earnings since you weren’t doing much work at all. True it’s disappointing to see the income fall from last month, but it sounds like you expected that. Hopefully this income level keeps up next month to fund your world cup fun. I am jealous that you get to enjoy the world cup first hand. I’ll just be sitting on my couch enjoying the occasional match.
It’s still pretty good earnings, and alot higher earnings than most can say that they earn online =D Considering the amount of work you actually put in, I would say what you are earning is really good, but thats just my take on it. I am also looking forward to the World Cup, and will be cheering for Brazil to win it all
I also saw a dip in May in my earnings but from here to September earnings usually grow steadily, particularly in the travel industry..
Still $1660 is not bad for doing nothing!

I’m subscribed to 100+ blogs/newspapers that obviously produce thousands of posts in my reader, but your monthly Earnings Reports stand out among all of them and I always rush to read it
Love the REAL honest info, and congrats on everything you’ve achieved.
wow. I am really impressed with what you are doing. How does one start learning how to set up web sites and blogs?
I too love the real stats. It is a great way to be motivated and relate to what others are doing. Some think it might be showing off, while I just see it as a motivational tool. Thank you!
You should have an affiliate program for your ebook…u would sell more….i know i’d sign up for it…maybe 35% advertiser, 35% you, 30% to charity.
Thanks for your comments everyone!
@chris Sounds good to me! I will be in Durban from the 21st to 29th but a bit all over the place after that. Once the World Cup is done though I plan to head back to Cape Town to look into renting a place. Looks like you’ll be there so I will be sure to get in touch. I just checked out your site. Very nice stuff!
@neale I’ve already set aside 2014 to 2016 as my Brazil years!
@paintball I write the updates because I remember them being what I really loved reading myself when I started out. I also found them really motivational.
@matt Ya that’s something I need to consider at some point, I think.
Kirsty – another good month. It seems as though your monthly earnings are growing slightly over time… a really good thing. I agree that an affiliate program would be a good move for you. You could also start a Twitter campaign to get the word out. I’ll help!
I know that april was a great month, but you can’t expect to have that kind of earnings every month…
@Kirsty we should talk closer to the time… maybe a bunch of us can rent a house for a few years….
A lot of people writing “that’s a lot with no work”
What’s forgotten is all the hours put in years back with no instant reward, earnings are paid out over many many years for your days work in this business.
One way to look at this residual income type deal “as suggested by a friend”
Is ask yourself how much would I need to invest to receive X each month?
$1500 X 12 = $18,000 best case scenario would require around $360,000 invested at 5%
May earning amount is less to April month. Yes, we can’t expect same amount of every month.
Well done Kirsty, It has been a bit since I came over to check you out, it is good to see things are going well for you
That is great stuff Kristy and i wanna congratulate you on this…One thing i want to share with you, I personally think that adsence is limited source of income and we can’t do anything more with that…
those are awesome earnings, well done!
Seems to me that IR departments have no incentive to subsidize this high frequency trading activity and the real shareowners shouldn’t be footing the bill for a group that can afford to pay the bill themselves.
