April Earnings Report
I earned $3030 in April. Yep. I am pretty happy about that. It’s my first ever plus $3000 month and it took me by surprise, as always. My computer died on my so my good month came at a great time.
Earnings Breakdown:
- Google Adsense - $440 - Adsense gave me one of my best months with a niche site of mine contributing to that. The site does well from April to about June so it will be nice to have some income from there.
- Affiliate Sales - $600 - My affiliate sales are starting to spread out more evenly which means less pressure on my main affiliate which continues to die out slowly. It’s encouraging to see the others start to produce more and more each month.
- Advertising - $1570 - I didn’t have many link renewals but I had a bunch of new advertising deals pop up which really gave me a boost this month.
- Ebook Sales - $420 - My ebook did well in April with 60 sales. I did a lot of promotion and it resulted in a good number of sales. It seems pretty evident to me how writing articles, offering books for review etc. directly result in sales so I will get back into that once I get home. Ebook sales for May are already sluggish and I doubt they’ll pick up without promotion.
That’s all for now! I have to run off to work. I need to go figure out how to plaster some walls with concrete.

So pleased that your ebook sales are on the up. I have been willing you along here and was sad that things didn’t go quite as you’d hoped when you first launched it. It’s great to see that things are coming along well for you now and let’s hope for even more in the next few months.
BTW whilst I know you’ve written a number of articles here on how to find advertisers, I never cease to be amazed how much of your income is based on this. Any further tips and advice you can offer here on the blog would be greatly appreciated if you get any time to yourself
That is awesome Kirsty!!! Been waiting for this post, and its great to hear that you’ve done so well! Really inspiring me to reach that level
Well done! I’ve been admiring you from afar, reading your blogs regularly. You really are an inspiration of what can be done and you’ve made me start asking myself the right questions.
p.s. RIP your laptop!!!
Kirsty - Good job this month! That’s quite a boost in income! Congratulations on a good month. And good luck on the ebook sales. When is HODR going to promote for you? They need to get the word out there so more people will be inspired to follow in your footsteps.
Why not put a video together showing the work you’re doing and post it on YouTube? You can plug the ebook and HODR and let people know what it’s really like to volunteer and help people out. HODR should help you with that, too!
Anyway, whatever you do, good luck and thanks for sharing your experiences.
Congrats on a very productive month! I too would be over the moon with great earnings like that.
Till then,
Jean
I’d also be interested in more info on finding direct advertisers!
Thanks all!
@richard @rob I’m afraid I don’t have any secret tips or anything. I can write a post on the topic but I need to think about why I think people contact me out of the blue the way they do. Coming soon…ish.
@steve I’m not sure if HODR have started an Adsense campaign yet or what the deal is. I need to get in touch with the guy who was looking after that stuff to see what the deal is. I had a mention on their site but you also have some good ideas to ponder.
Nice one Kirsty.. I remember seeing you on working nomad forums, it wasn’t that long ago you were making $100 a month. Great to see what can be done with perseverance and hard work. Here’s to the first $4k month.

I agree with Steve’s suggestion about creating a video or two to post on youtube. Considering the huge amount of people on youtube, it can result in a good stream of traffic. It would be easy enough to film a bit of volunteering work and combine it with a spiel about your book & blog.
By the way, congrats on the $3000+ month. That is an impressive online income, especially considering how at the same time you’ve been so busy volunteering. Keep up the great work!
Hi Kirsty,
I’ve been reading you for ages but have only just got around to commenting. I think this is quite an amazing result. Particularly when your adsense earnings are your second lowest and they only just pip your ebook sales (which are still in their infancy). Yet, there are loads of people (myself included) who have been thinking that Adsense is the best way to monetise a web site - your completely turn that on it’s head.
I would also be very interested in a post about what you are doing to make people willing to spend $1570 per month between them, come to you!!
Congrats on a great month.
Cheers
Katie
congratulation. im newbie now. i want get a lot of money from adsense. if you life on indonesia, you can be a good teacher for me.
Congratulations on surpassing $3000 mark in online income. I have another question on the private ad deals. Is the $1570 all the money you received upfront or is it the monthly earnings you will be earning from those ads?
For example I once sold a one year ad for $10/month on January 1. The total received was $120 for the year, but what I included in my monthly income was $10 ( since the advertiser could cancel at any moment if my Pr drops or for whatever other reason).
Best Regards,

Kirsty, I gotta tell ya… I had to go all the way down the page to find the original post to your ebook. In fact, you even forgot to link this post to your ebook.
If you want to promote more your ebook, you should start by posting a small version of the cover on the sidebar. I didn’t even know you had a special page up in the navbar.
It looks like you are embarrassed or something, as if selling your ebook to your visitors on your blog about your experiences were a bad thing to do. I really like your blog, and as a long time reader, I don’t think that’s the case.
Now I’m off to read your ebook. Cheers!
Congrats !! Advertising income is really good. I hope you will get more to this month.
well done. It looks like you are getting better better at this!
Great Kirsty! Dinner is on you when you come to NYC on Friday
Such an interesting post, and very inspirational. We’ve just started our around-the-world (and around and around) trip this month, and I’d love to see our blog take off like yours in the coming months. We’ll keep on reading for the great advice!
I’m so impressed. Congrats!
Nice work! Appreciate your willingness to share. This is the kind of info that gets us location independent folks excited about our career choice.
Awesome result. I can only wonder about such a great earnings. Congrats Kristy keep working
Very impressive. Wish you doing better and better.
You have earned good income, Congrats
you deserve it, this is how I live my life “do good things and good things will happen to you”
Well done on the book and the earnings. I read today that the iBook store (via the iTunes Store) now allows people to publish their own work, set their own price, and hopefully make some money that way: and it seems pretty easy - that might be another outlet for your ebook. Good luck!
$3000!!! I’m impressed. I just discovered your blog and ran headlong into this post. My hat is off to you. I’ve been struggling for five years just to make a couple of hundred dollars a month. I only dream of $3,000. If I ever get to that point, I really could quit my day job.
Congratulations.
I just went back and read your new post about May’s earnings. Not as a great as April. But you’ll have another superb month in no time.
