I've worked in some places like this in South Korea. Nice to see different types of environments.

By the way if you are in Khao San and are looking for WiFi, try KS house:
http://www.khaosanroad.com/directory/comment.php?listing_id=190

Connection is billed as "high speed", but that is saying a bit much.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/williamtaylor/3485265813/

It is however functional.
I couldn't find anywhere else with wifi (except for the really expensive places) in the Khao San region. There are heaps of places in Chiang Mai for some reason. Are Bangkok backpacker hotel owners stingy bastards?
Well yes.

Alot of fun too view the different locations you were at! I would be scared though.. to login to a wireless network in public, hehe.

Hi Kirsty, This is Michael from Managua Backpackers Inn (the other owner and current general manager). Just wanted to let you and other readers know that since this post, we have figured out the issues with the internet and the wireless connection at the second house (el segundo) and have got them fixed. Sorry for the problems you encountered.
Cheers,
Michael

Kirsty:

I have been in both places that you mention in Nicaragua and I agree completely with your assessment. The Big Foot Hostel is an amazing place and I really like what Greg has done with the Backpacker's Inn in Managua. When I was there for the first of many visits he only had the one house. I like the second house better but as you say the connection is crap.

In fact, that can be said for most of Nicaragua. I even had a cable connection at a house I rented there for 6 months and that didn't live up to expectations either.

Great post and love your blog!

LOL you inadvertantly point out how precious some writers and others are about their work space! I guess I am used to my 14" laptop on my knee on hte couch now - but would like a bigger 2nd monitor one day. Is the WIFI stuff which is the frustration - Australia is one of theworst places outside of the cities. Lis
