The total price for my place is 4300 per month for two bed, big lounge, very modern, central location. So a one bed further away from the centre, less modern etc etc will be a lot less but I'm not sure if it would be less than 2200 though. There are some seriously cheap places here if you're willing to share but with a 1 year old that's probably not an option. I don't think I could live in Beijing during the winter though. Eating at Chinese restaurants can be cheap and you usually order enough for your next days lunch - just ask for a "dabao".
