October Earnings Update
I’ve had another record month by a lot coming in at $1895.21 for October. I’m surprised with this because, while I’ve been been doing loads of work, most of my have been going towards a new site that’s not online. I haven’t really done anything to improve my active sites but earnings have still increased which is pretty surprising to me.
Here’s my earnings breakdown:
- Google Adsense - $290.61 - Sooooo close to the $10 a day mark I desperately want to reach but I just missed it. I still had my best month by a massive $2 so that’s good. I think my new site is well set up for Adsense and I’m hoping it will bump my earnings up by $50 at least.
- Affiliate Sales - $1144.50 - My main affiliate program performed really well once again and I’m starting to rely on it as steady income whereas before I was fearful that it would crash and burn at some point. Some of my other programs came through with a few sales here and there this month too which is encouraging. Nothing major but it’s nice to see that they actually work. Hostelworld continues to suck.
- Linkworth & Text Link Ads - $93.10 - Linkworth is a pile of poop. Text Link Ads were steady again. I’ve maxed my links on Travoholic.com and have three sold on my working holidays site which I expect to improve once I launch the new site. I’ve just had my living in London site approved too and expect a few more sales. I’m not happy with the prices TLA have offered but for now I’ll take it.
- Private Link Sales - $367 - I have a couple links for $10 each that are on a subscription with Paypal so they come in each month with no effort. Plus I had a renewal of a six month link for $27. But the biggies were links for $120 and another for $200 that came totally out of the blue, as usual. Each month I wonder if I’ll land any big sales like these and each month something seems to pop up from nowhere.
I couldn’t really be more pleased with this month! I was expecting a drop in income since I was away for 10 days and am spending all of my time working on a new site. I think my earnings are a bit inflated due to over half of my earnings coming in currencies that are strong at the moment against the pitiful US dollar. I think it’s important to try to diversify currencies as well as income streams. So with that in mind, one of my goals for November is to snag some private link sales with British companies.
I plan to spend most of my time in November focusing on my London site. I want to move it to a better template (that is already built), add as much content as I can muster, snap lots of photos and get in contact with some potential advertisers. I’ve only got six weeks left here and I know once I’m gone my focus will shift so I really want to make it as good a resource as I can and then I’ll forget about it for a while.
I’m getting closer to that $2000 mark and with a final push I think I can get there by December. It’s strange to think that my goal for December about 6 months ago was only $500. Onwards and upwards!

Kirsty thats great to see you doing so well particuarly when one has followed your progress the last 15 months. I also had a great month
If i can continue to track you a year in arrears i will be one happy camper
finishing at $626 not bad when I think back to August of 2006 my first month where I made $4.41 I did break the elusive $10 day with adsense finising up with $320 I made a little under $300 with another single site where I use adwords to create traffic & sell an item, then $7.50 with my directory. Whats also encouraging & also a little scary is most of my income came from just a couple of sites & I have lots more doin nothing never mind all the realy good domains I bought recently
Good job! I remember when you were complaining how you couldn’t make a single affiliate sale! It is great to see everyone on WN slowly making more money. My adsense is going up a little but I am also spending a bit on new sites, scripts and domains. Just bought a domain for $1000 today. Ouch!
Wow, congratulations! I’m in the process of launching a few sites at the moment, partly because I want to try and diversify income streams, and you are really quite an inspiration. Congratulations!
Congratulations on the great month. October looks to of been good for quite a few people, I love Christmas.
I’ve not thought about diversifying currencies before, great advice. As I’m across the other side of the pond the rates hurt me some what.
Nice job! Your affiliate sales are the golden ticket.
Why do you say link worth is a pile of poop? while i don’t make as much as you do, they are my golden ticket. Or do you say that because you just haven’t made anything from them?
I’ve banned Google. They think they’re too big for their britches.
It’s wonderful to follow your saga… hoping I’ll learn from all these when I’m ready.
Well done! I just made $6.50 in Adsense for the month - which is a 50% increase over Sept so if it keeps going ilke that all would be good in 6 months ROTFL! I got accepted for PayPerPost too - which is probably worse the selling advertising to a lot of people but at least you can pick and choose what you write about!
Nice post Lissie…I came across (just stalked) PPP forum one time, oh well like you said you can pick and choose. I just didn’t have the time to really look into it since I’m still in a very steep learning climb…but it’s something of interest.
Neale it’s great to see you doing well! I have to admit taht I was never convinced of your strategy but it’s paying off so that’s great. Sell any t-shirts yet? It’s funny that you consider yourself a year behind me. I feel like I’m following the same path as Webby but am a couple of years off. I think the key with this is to be patient and give everything the time it needs and I know you’re an advocate of that.
Yep I’m defiantely sold on affiliates, I just need to find more programs that pay off.
Al I think I’m on the same side of the pond as you (UK) but I only earn a small amount in quid so it’s easier just to convert it all to $ when I do these updates.
Steve I don’t think Linkworth sucks, it’s just that I can’t seem to sell any links with them and they’re only making my $8. I’m just bitter! Glad they work for you though.
Thanks for all the congratulations!
Thanks Kirsty so you was not convinced of my strategy LOL neither was I
Lissie Keep up the good work as I once suggested to someone else you may have to get a little more ruthless
sell a few links on those sites & you will see income go up 10 fold next month. Start a few sites which have higher paying key words insurance, transportation etc create a site that sells a digital product then use payper click If you get it right you will get instant profits.
tee-shirts not yet but thats a good example of how this buis works first I had to get an idea then get a design “thanks Kirsty” then put a few links out their to the site http://www.cafepress.com/goldfishcare work it in to my goldfishsite www.goldfishcare.org but thats about all for now, I need to create a basic store “basic product pages” on my goldfish site probably give them a little push through eBay & Amazon Add them to google base dabble in craigs list, create a PPC campaign now the pages are indexed, all this is easy a days work probably to sell a single shirt but then I will probably sell a couple a week for a few years
Oh ok, gotcha! I’m not sure if you opted into their newest product, LINKINTXT, but it seems it’s their response to google coming down on people selling links. It’s kinda crazy trying to explain it, I think it is like a search bot and it finds keywords “inside” your content for sale. Then instead of putting ads where they’re easily found, you put ads inside the content.
Neale, that cafepress site is pretty cool. Do you guys ever get the feeling no matter how much time you spend on the net, you’ll only see less than 5% of everything out there?
GREAT JOB kirsty!!!!!!
Kristy: Let me join the chorus of those saying: Congratulations! Job well done. You are an inspiration to me and others. (One day I hope to post my own results, but currently still in the idea collecting stages.)
Thank you.

Kirsty: Sorry for mangling your name. Hate it when that happens…

Thanks for the suggestions Neale - yes I do have to get more into selling links but I have been concentrating on content first - I can’t believe how long this all takes!
October Earnings Report…
I am blatantly stealing this idea from Kirsty who is one of the people who have inspired me that this working thing on the internet is actually possible, as she writes: “record month by a lot coming in at $1895.21 for October“. Thats US$ t…
