Stalking Text-Link-Ads Has Paid Off
I submitted my Living in London website to Text-Link-Ads about a year ago when it was very crappy and it was turned down. I overhauled the entire thing about 4 months ago and since then it has become my most popular and highest earning site. When I tried to resubmit it to TLA I got an email saying that it would automatically be reviewed each month and that they would contact me when the site qualified for the program.
So I’ve waited and waited and waited some more and waited again and no word from TLA despite some good traffic numbers. I had assumed that the reason for the site’s exclusion was that it is only rated PR2 (my other sites are PR4) and resigned myself to having to wait for Google’s phantom update.
Well this afternoon I shot off a quick email to the people at TLA asking them if they would consider the site for inclusion because I was sick of waiting and, low and behold, I just got an email welcoming the site into their program. Happy days! They’re only willing to sell a maximum of 5 links (as opposed to 10) at between $10-25 each (before their 50% cut) so it’s not exactly going to make me rich but every little bit helps.
So if you’ve got a site that you’ve already submitted to TLA and feel like it’s lost in some dusty filing cabinet in a broom closet of in a back alley of the internet then it might be worth sending them an email to ask what the story is. I’m guessing they might have become a bit more flexible about their minimum PR requirements since Google havn’t updated in ages.

I've been travelling since January 2008 living off earnings from the web. Follow me as I bum around Asia and beyond, getting up to mischief and working online as I go.
Congrats on the inclusion into TLA, Kirsty! I waited over a year for one of my sites as well.
In other news, the latest Google PR update is beginning and it’s not looking good. Many big name sites are seeing BIG PR drops: http://www.dailyblogtips.com/google-changing-the-pagerank-algorithm
The Washington Post is a 5?!? My personal blog was a 5 less than a year ago. How is that possible?
Congrats Kirsty I had a simlar problem with them & pretty much gave up, after reading your posts I had noted you are making a fair chunk of change with them & I should put it down as a thing to do.
Congrats…another feather in your cap. Does this mean I’d be lucky to wear one a year from now? I should really get my act together.
Mike that sort of thing really makes me wonder what the point of PR is. Those drops are ridiculous. Why don’t they just raise the rest of us up to PR7s therefore devaluing the other sites?
Neale get onto it! It took me a long time to sort out TLA because all of my sites were written in HTML, not PHP, so I had to manaully transfer everything over.
Cecilia it’s not about luck! I think your drums site has a lot of potential and with some hard work I thin kyou can turn it into an earner for sure. Get to work woman!
I’ve had mixed results with TLA, but I have never placed them on my more popular sites because they tend to pay a lot less than I can get for myself. I have placed them on many of my niche sites and it earns a little extra money. That being said, a lot of people say they make good money with them so maybe it’s just that I haven’t put enough effort into using them correctly.
Thanks for some kind words Kirsty…just like a breath of fresh air when one is starting to suffocate. We’re starting to wonder if it’s worth keeping the site. If we make it to retirement this summer, we don’t know how and what will happen when we change provider. I don’t know how to keep AT&T DSL from the Philippines. Supposedly I’m paying a DSL connection there, but when we were there in July we always ended up with dial-up…can’t wait when the 1-yr term ends.
FH I think I could make more myself too but with TLA it’s nice to put it on autopilot and not have to chase people or think about it. I don’t make much per link so when my sites start to do better I think I’ll either scrap it or try to get higher rates.
