Late Night Link Love - Part Deux
It really annoys me when I come across a great idea for a site that I could have totally pulled off myself. This one is a perfect example of how a simple idea can be combined with a bit of coding (that can easily be outsourced) to create a great wee tool. If you love travelling and you love beer then check out Pintprice.com to see how badly boozing it up on your next trip will blow your budget.
With a domain name like ‘Nerdy Nomad’ you’d think I’d be up on all the latest gadgets and gizmos for the flashpackers among us. As it turns out, travel gadgets don’t really do it for me. Fortunately, Geeky Traveller comes to the rescue with reviews on lots of cool little travel gizmos.
Think adventure travel is dead unles you want to climb Everest or trek to the South Pole? Think again! The Adventurists are thinking up wild and wacky ways to bring some craziness back to a world where everything seems to have been done. They’re the organisers of the hugely popular Mongol Rally and the Rickshaw Run that my friend and I plan on doing at the end of 2009. If you’re looking to spice up your travels, why not drive some shit heap of a vehicle across mountains for thousands of miles on dodgy roads for charity? Can’t wait!

I've been travelling since January 2008 living off earnings from the web. Follow me as I bum around Asia and beyond, getting up to mischief and working online as I go.
That is what is frustrating me right now….coming up with good ideas for a web site/blog that are interesting and substantial enough to really build something on. Some of the the ideas that I have come up with so far are already done by a million other blogs.
How do you guys get ideas for a website or a blog?
I started my first site because no other decent backpacking sites really existed (believe it or not!). There were zero sites offering hostel reviews so I decided to start my own. I made a site that aimed to answer all the questions I had before I took my trip. Same with my London site… I tried to remember all those things I couldn’t find answers for online and wrote articles answering all my own questions, assuming that other people wanted to know the same stuff.
That’s always worked for me. So I guess to get my ideas I think about things I want to know the answer to and if there’s nothing online I find the answers and build a site.
Is there anything you know a lot about and are passionate about? If there is and you write about it, hopefully your knowledge and passion will shine through and make you stand out, even if there are a million other sites out there.
